Gary Mart, M.D., LLC

As an adult and child & adolescent psychiatrist, I have operated my private practice in Chicago for 24 years. I earned my medical degree from Rush Medical College, completed my residency in general psychiatry at Northwestern University, and pursued a fellowship in child & adolescent psychiatry at the University of Chicago.

My approach to mental health care is deeply rooted in the Bio-psychosocial model, which emphasizes the interplay of biological, psychological, and social factors in health and illness. This comprehensive framework guides my work, whether I am managing psychotropic medications in a split treatment model or providing integrated medication management and psychotherapy. I believe that psychotropic medication should enhance, rather than replace, psychological and social interventions. To achieve effective treatment, particularly for children, I often collaborate with parents, educators, therapists, pediatricians, and, when necessary, legal professionals.

In recent years, my practice has downsized as I have taken on roles in community psychiatry in a quest to improve access to mental health care. Consequently, I often provide second opinions and collaborate with existing healthcare providers. I especially value partnerships with pediatricians and family practitioners, as I am a strong advocate for expanding Collaborative Care to enhance access to mental health services.
